Stakes sizzle, times two
Jockey Fraser Aebly had himself a Saturday. The rider celebrated his first Woodbine stakes success when he piloted 27-1 Ecstasy to victory in the Ontario Damsel Stakes and then, one race later, earned his first graded stakes crown when he partnered 48-1 A Game to glory in the Grade 3 Ontario Fashion Stakes.

Jockey Sahin Civaci won five of eight races on Saturday, including the first and second with Will Reign and Golden Boss, respectively. Woodbine’s leading rider also made trips to the winner’s circle with Mrs. C, My Sunny Valentine, and Tosen Wish (IRE). The multiple graded stakes winning rider is closing in on 600 career victories.
Thundering struck
Thundering, under Eswan Flores, pulled off a 10-1 upset in the $125,000 Display Stakes, Sunday at Woodbine. Sired by Mosler out of the Street Cry (IRE) mare Keep Right, Thundering paid $23.90 for the milestone win. Patrick Dixon trains for owner and breeder Dastur Racing.
On Tap
Live racing continues this weekend. On Saturday, the Grade 3 $135,000 Ontario Derby takes centre stage. The $100,000 South Ocean Stakes and $100,000 Frost King share the spotlight on Sunday.
