Seahawks Aim to Stay Perfect

Mike MacDonald’s Seattle Seahawks are one of just five remaining undefeated NFL teams. The Seahawks defense has been a revelation, tallying 11 sacks and the best defensive grade in the league according to PFF. Seattle has allowed just 14.3 points per game and are second in EPA per play allowed (-.218).

Geno Smith has completed nearly 75% of his passes, but has failed to protect the football, tossing three interceptions to go along with his three touchdown passes.

Notably, the Seahawks have won their games against the lowly Broncos, Patriots and Dolphins. Teams quarterbacked by rookie Bo Nix, Jacoby Brissett and Skylar Thompson in the absence of Tua Tagovailoa. The Lions and Jared Goff provide a much tougher test.

Seattle also has a few key injuries heading into Monday Night Football. Defensive lineman Byron Murphy, Boye Mafe and Leonard Williams missed practice this week, and both Laken Tomlinson and Kenneth Walker were limited. If the Seahawks starting defensive tackles can’t go, their undersized front seven will be even more vulnerable against the Lions stout offensive front.

Lions Are Money at Home

While it hasn’t been the start to the season many envisioned for the Lions, Detroit’s in great shape. Quarterback Jared Goff and returning coordinator Ben Johnson have led their offense to fourth in yards per game, and rank in the top seven in both rushing yards and passing yards per contest. The Lions possess one of the league’s best offensive lines, and own the NFL’s third-best rushing grade according to PFF.

The Lions lethal running back duo of David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs have decimated opponents this season. Detroit’s backs have racked up 438 rushing yards and combined to average 4.85 yards per carry. They’ve also accounted for five total touchdowns already.

Dan Campbell’s squad will be without the services of starting center Frank Ragnow as he missed practice all week with a pectoral injury.

The NFL ATS records favor Detroit in this matchup, as the Lions have gone a phenomenal 6-2 against the spread in their last eight games as the favorite.

Seahawks vs Lions Predictions & Picks

Ultimately, the Seahawks have exploited an easy schedule thus far in the 2024 NFL season. Goff and the Lions are money at home and their powerful offensive line will decimate the Seahawks’ injured defensive front. Shutting down the hardnosed approach of Detroit will be too much for an overmatched Seattle front seven.

Back the Lions to cover the spread on Monday Night Football.
