Horse Racing Tips: O’Brien runner has Monumental chance at Gowran Park
Flat racing holds sway across Britain and Ireland on Tuesday with five meetings taking place across the afternoon and into the evening. First off is Gowran Park before they go to Goodwood, Chepstow, Southwell and Newcastle.
Among my horse racing tips for Tuesday is one for trainer Aidan O’Brien who was a good second at the Curragh last time and will take all the beating with further improvement likely.
Horse Racing Tips – Tuesday, September 3
14:10 Gowran Park – Monumental @ 13/8
Aidan O’Brien won this 7f maiden four times on the bounce between 2017 and 2020, and the Ballydoyle handler should have a massive chance of landing this year’s edition with the well bred son of Kingman, MONUMENTAL.
Sent off a 7/1 chance for his debut over 6f at the Curragh in May, he ran a poor enough race but the winner was Henri Matisse who remains unbeaten, is a Group 2 winner and holds some lofty entries this year.
Monumental ran a much better race on his second start over the same trip at that track last time when second to stablemate Ides Of March, who went on to bolt up in a Group 3 at the Curragh at the weekend.
The selection won’t have to improve much to land this and he also holds some lofty entries, including one for the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket in October.
14:55 Goodwood – Urban Lion @ 11/2
Sent off 100/1 for his debut at Newmarket over the mile in June, URBAN LION finished midfield in an extremely hot novice on the day so it was no surprise to see him get his head in front last time and he can land this 1m2f novice.
Behind a couple of very smart Godolphin horses at Newmarket, he was sent off a short price for a Chelmsford maiden in August and he won by half a length without being given too hard a time of it by Silvestre De Sousa on the day.
Trained by Jack Channon, this boy is still a work in progress and although this will be much tougher, he has the scope to take another step forward in an open race.
16:40 Goodwood – East India Dock @ 5/4
Hector Crouch is having a great year in the saddle but his ride on EAST INDIA DOCK over course and distance last time wasn’t his finest moment, but the son of Golden Horn can make amends with Jack Doughty taking 5lb off in the saddle.
The gelding relished the step up to two miles for the first time last time and was a desperately unlucky loser when a very close third off this mark, with his run impeded a couple of times on the home straight.
This represents a step up in class but he receives lumps of weight from his rivals and should take all the beating on this occasion.
