5 Celebrity-Owned Whiskies You Have to Try

5 Celebrity-Owned Whiskies You Have to Try

  • By Admin

As the air begins to turn chilly and the nights draw in, it’ll soon be time to throw another log on the fire, slip into our comfies, put our feet up, and pour ourselves a wee dram of our favourite whiskey/whisky as we reflect on a long week.

One of the best things about whiskey/whisky, other than the taste, is the sheer variety available to you. You can enjoy all manner of tipples with all kinds of flavour profiles, from all over the globe. It doesn’t matter whether you enjoy Scotch, Irish whiskey, Japanese whisky, Bourbon, or any other type of this fantastic beverage, you’ll have plenty of choice when deciding on which tipple you fancy next.

Lately we’ve seen a sharp increase in the amounts of celebrities bringing out their own alcohol brands and products, and surprisingly, we’ve been very impressed. While celebrity-owned whiskies are unlikely to win any prestigious awards, they’re not like drinking paint thinner like they would have been decades ago perhaps, so, you know, there is that.

But what are some of the celebrity-owned whiskies that have impressed the team the most here at Great Drams? Well, let’s find out, shall we? Here are 5 celebrity-owned whiskies you have to try.

‘Wolfie’s Whisky’

Up first on our list today we have an offering from a rock and roll legend and a knight of the realm. Yes, it’s none other than Sir Rod Stewart with his blended Scotch ‘Wolfie’s Whisky’.

Rod is a Scot, and he knows how to party so it’s safe to say that he knows his way around a fine Scotch. Wolfie’s Whisky is surprisingly excellent.

The packaging is bold and brash, just like the rock star. It is a homage to his Vagabond Heart album released in 1991, and even features lyrics from one of his songs (Rhythm of my Heart) on the bottle’s base.

Distilled, blended, and bottled by Loch Lomand Distillery, Wolfie’s is a deep crimson amber coloured 40% ABV delight with strong notes of cinnamon and vanilla, followed by smoked peat, pear syrup, toasted oak, and citrus peel to finish. It’s almost as smooth as Rod himself.

Jack and Victor Blended Scotch

While blended whisky was once sneered at by whisky snobs, things are very different nowadays, and with a little blending magic, and the right touch, a blended Scotch can easily be achieved. Don’t believe us? Just ask Ford Kiernan and Greg Hemphill, AKA Jack and Victor from the iconic Scottish sitcom Still Game.

Jack and Victor, two elderly pensioners from the slums of the fictional Craiglang in the heart of Glasgow, are no strangers to a wee snifter. Whether they’re supping watered down tat down at ‘The Clansman’ or devouring the last bottle of Clark Gable’s favourite heather-filtered Scotch, they know their whisky, and so too do their creators.

Ford and Greg have once again teamed up to create Jack and Victor Blended Scotch Whisky. At 40% ABV it’s another smooth number with a gorgeous golden yellow hue, and it too is distilled, blended, and bottled at Loch Lomond Distillery.

This is more of a buttery whisky with honey and vanilla fudge aromas, giving way to a pleasant taste of honey, chocolate, toasted oats, toffee apple, and pink peppercorns, with a very smooth finish leaving plenty of sticky toffee pudding notes toward the end.

Haig Club Clubman

Does it annoy anybody else just how perfect David Beckham is? Seriously, the man can do no wrong.

Considered one of the best footballers of modern times, and arguably the best free-kick taker of all time, since retiring he has become a hugely successful entrepreneur, branching out into modelling, fragrances, fashion, and football investment after taking his Inter Miami FC from a $25 million team in 2018, to a $600 million team in 2023.

Another of his success stories is his Haig Club Clubman whisky.

The whisky is instantly recognisable thanks to its modern indigo-coloured bottle, and while you have to admit it looks more like a bottle of perfume than a bottle of single-grain Scotch, that is where the similarities end. Haig Club Clubman is a whisky for people who do not yet enjoy whisky.

At 40% ABV (see a pattern here?) this is a very pale golden coloured whisky that matures in ex-American bourbon casks. It has buttery sweet and salty popcorn notes, a hint of vanilla, oak, Scottish tablet, and a whisper of bonfire smoke. The finish is surprisingly harsh for a 40% ABV tipple, though, and don’t come for us, here, this actually pairs very well with a full-sugar cola, or a ginger beer.

Wild Turkey Longbranch Bourbon

If you aren’t a Scotch fan and instead prefer a nice bourbon, this tipple from award-winning Hollywood actor Matthew McConaughey and distiller Eddie Russell is bound to impress, and it can certainly be described much better than simply ‘alright, alright, alright.’

Ever since he knocked it out of the park as detective Rust Cohle in 2014’s True Detective season 1, Matt has gone from strength to strength. A keen bourbon fan, his Wild Turkey Longbranch Bourbon is a wonderful bourbon.

Wild Turkey Longbranch bourbon uses charcoal filtration made from a combination of Texas mesquite wood and Kentucky white oak represents elements from Matthew and Eddie’s home states.

With a rich amber honey colour, this bourbon packs a bit more of a punch, coming in at 43% ABV. You’ll instantly get caramel, nutmeg, and honey on the nose, followed by flavours of vanilla fudge, buttery caramel cake, honey, crisp apples, a touch of citrus peel, and smoked oak. On the finish you’ll get a hint of black pepper, a long and drawn out finish, more oak, and a touch of toffee.

Proper Twelve

Finally, in our best Conor accent ‘You’ll do nuttin.’ Nothing, that is, but enjoy the smoothness and richness of this Irish whiskey founded by polarising MMA fighter Conor ‘Notorious’ McGregor.

Conor may have sold his shares in Proper Twelve to Proximo Spirits for $600 million, but everybody knows that the drink is his creation, which is why we’re including it today.

With light walnut colours, Proper Twelve is another 40% ABV whiskey that is very easy to drink. You can expect plenty of vanilla notes, toasted oak, honey, and mixed fruits from this blend of single malt and golden grain.

If you’re looking for an easy drinker, this is the whiskey for you.
