Seahawks set to keep QB Geno Smith for 2024 NFL season

Seahawks set to keep QB Geno Smith for 2024 NFL season

  • By Admin

The Seattle Seahawks may have many changes ahead for the 2024 season, but it doesn’t appear that Geno Smith’s future will be among those.

Smith was informed by the team that his $12.7 million on his contract for next season will be carried through by the Seahawks. The money in question is a guarantee for injury when he signed his three-year, $75 million contract last March.

Smith also holds a $9.6 million roster bonus that is due on March 18 and a $200,000 workout bonus. The veteran quarterback is currently slated to be the $18th-highest player at his position in 2024.

Smith took a step back with his production last season posting 3,624 passing yards along with 20 touchdown passes to nine interceptions on a 64.7 completion rate in 15 games played.

Although Smith’s numbers declined, the Seahawks still found a way to nearly push their way into the playoffs. The 33-year-old has rejuvenated his career in Seattle after earning the starting job before the 2022 season.

He’s been a strong source of reliability that the Seahawks are hoping can help push the team back toward playoff contention.

Smith will have every opportunity to prove that he can effectively lead the Seahawks offense. Seattle will likely look to improve talent around him while adding to their solid core in the passing game that is led by wide receivers D.K. Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and Jaxon Smith-Njiba.

Smith and the Seahawks have the chance to rebound to push their back into the playoffs.
