Darvin Ham talks LeBron James & Victor Wembanyama comparisons

  • By Admin

The hype around San Antonio Spurs rookie big man Victor Wembanyama continues to build as he moves through his first NBA season.

Wembanyama’s promising play has earned him plenty of media attention, and Los Angeles Lakers head coach Darvin Ham stated there is some comparison to LeBron James when he first came into the NBA.

“It’s close, but again we’re just at the outset,” Ham said via ESPN‘s Dave McMenamin. “The young fella is really, really impressive, what I’ve seen thus far. And watching him when he was over in France. But for the most part, he has a long way to go. He definitely has the potential, but I mean when you talk about durability, the self-care, the work that’s put in, he has the potential I’ll say that again, but time will tell.”

Wembanyama is arguably the most anticipated talent to enter the NBA since James. He has garnered the expectations to become a player the caliber of James or Kareem Abdul-Jabbar due to his skill set and physical ability.

Although he’s a much different player than James, there is a high level of expectation for him to put together an illustrious NBA career that puts him among the all-time greats.

Those are tremendous shoes to fill, but Wembanyama has shown flashes of plenty of promise as a two-way talent. In his first three games, he’s averaging 15.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.0 steals, and 1.7 blocks on 44.7 percent shooting from the floor and 23.1 percent from beyond the arc.

Wembanyama will have plenty of opportunities to showcase his talent as one of the primary offensive factors for the Spurs.
