An Israel-based sports betting data provider that pulled out of last week’s Global Gaming Expo due to the heightened Middle East conflict will receive a partial refund despite missing the prominent Las Vegas conference.

LSports, a sports wagering data provider, decided to skip the conference due to the circumstances surrounding the Hamas group’s attack on Israel from the Gaza Strip. Purchasing a booth at G2E can be costly, running into the high five figures for an area of the size reserved by LSports. Following the cancellation, the organizers of G2E offered to apply the cost of the booth to next year’s edition, LSports CEO Dotan Lazar told Sports Handle.

“We are deeply grateful to the organizers of the G2E event for their understanding and unwavering support of our decision,” Lazar wrote in a message via LinkedIn. “This arrangement has been greatly appreciated, and it reflects the empathy and flexibility they have shown during these difficult times.”

Each year, G2E is among the largest gambling conferences in the world. Some 25,000 gambling stakeholders attended last week’s expo in Sin City. The event is presented by the American Gaming Association, the nation’s leading advocacy group for the gambling industry.

Response to emotionally challenging events

Held at the expansive Venetian Expo Conference Center, the conference took place soon after Hamas, the Palestinian group that controls the Gaza Strip, launched a coordinated, surprise attack on Oct. 7 against Israeli civilians as well as soldiers.

Several moderators at the conference lent support to Israel at the start of their respective panels.

LSports, a provider of sports betting data APIs for the sports wagering industry, partners with approximately 100 global sports betting companies, including Betway, 888Sport, and BetConstruct. The company touts its “lightning fast in-play data” as among the fastest in the market. The data feeds, according to the company website, contain a latency of one second or less.

BetBooster, an LSports product, covers more than 100 betting markets based on A.I. analysis and historic data. OddsService, the company’s API service, enables partnering sportsbook operators to check, process, and verify their wagering offers in real time.

LSports originally planned to send four staffers to Las Vegas for the event, Lazar said. Although the Israel Ministry of Tourism did not ban travel outside of the country, major commercial airlines suspended travel in and out of the nation last week. It came after the U.S. State Department issued several travel advisories for the region citing the potential for terrorism.

“While there were no travel restrictions in place, we felt that, given the circumstances, it was important for our team members to remain close to their families and loved ones,” Lazar added. “The situation in Israel has been emotionally challenging for all of us, and we believed that being here was the best way to support and stay connected with our community.”

The Hamas conflict has had ramifications for the global sports calendar. On Thursday, UEFA, the governing body for all European soccer matches, said that Israel would not be hosting any UEFA-sanctioned matches due to safety concerns.
