Lots of quality racing is in store on Wednesday as the National Hunt season begins a proper emergence from summer slumber.
Jumps fare comes from Punchestown, Ludlow and Sedgefield, while there’s Flat racing on the turf at Nottingham and on the all-weather at Kempton in the evening.
We have three fancies to follow, including a former Cheltenham Gold Cup winner for Henry De Bromhead in the feature at Punchestown.
Wednesday Racing Tips
15:47 Nottingham – Let’s Dream @ 2/1
Hayley Turner has been in excellent recent form, boasting a 25 per-cent-strike-rate across recent weeks. She went to Wolverhampton on Monday evening and scored with her only mount and, after a day off on Tuesday, can repeat the feat with one ride at her home track in Nottingham today.
She partners Let’s Dream for Michael Bell in the British Stallion Studs EBF Nursery over the extended mile-and-a-quarter distance.
Turner was on board the Territories colt a fortnight ago when he continued his race-by-race improvement to win a Goodwood maiden (1m2f, soft) upped to this trip for the first time.
They travelled powerfully, moved amongst horses to challenge and ultimately saw off the market principles with something in hand.
An opening mark of 82 looks workable and, with track/ground favourable, they are taken for a winning nursery bow at the main expense of handicap debutants Go Daddy and Spanish Poet.
16:10 Punchestown – Minella Indo @ 11/4
Grade 3 action from Ireland this afternoon via the Irish Daily Star – Best For Racing Coverage Chase at Punchestown. Gordon Elliott has won this eight times in the last 12 season and the Cullentra handler is responsible for three of the six-runner field now, amongst them former Irish Gold Cup winner Conflated and dual Cross Country winner from the Cheltenham Festival, Delta Work.
That is the long-term aim for him again, but Conflated is favourite and perhaps rightly so, being a dual Grade 1-winning chaser.
He has a job on his hands however in giving 6lb to Minella Indo, the Henry De Bromhead-trained 2021 Cheltenham Gold Cup scorer.
He was in-and-out the following season, failing to win but finishing second to stablemate A Plus Tard back at Cheltenham in March.
Last term, he reappeared after 249 days out to beat Stattler in a cracking race at Tramore on New Year’s Day in this grade, taking advantage of the 8lb he got there.
The extra furlong in this race favours him and Rachael Blackmore’s partner could be the answer again on favourable terms.
18:30 Kempton – Mafnood @ 9/4
Richard Hannon and Jim Crowley will look to get on the scoresheet at Kempton this evening with Mafnood in the mile nursery.
The Kingman colt opened his account at Haydock (1m, good) in August, winning a novice event that has produced a trio of next-time-out winners.
Last month he went to Doncaster for a valuable nursery at the St Leger Festival, dropping to 7f and settling for second spot behind an improved Clive Cox winner that was in receipt of 10lb. The form of that Town Moor race has also been boosted by a couple of the beaten horses since.
This promising 2YO switches to the all-weather now and, back at the mile, should have more improvement in him so he’s taken to justify his inclusion on the Most Napped table via the Betfred Betfinder by winning here.
