Seven races take place on the flat from Brighton on Tuesday, Oct 10th; 13.45 – 17.15.
The excellent Saffie Osborne has some interesting mounts, and 2022 Arc-winning jockey Luke Morris is here too. Decent, lively ground is forecast.
15.30 – Chinthurst @ 11/4
Ten furlong, Class 6 fare – and a selection trained by Jim Boyle with Charlie Bennett on board. Chinthurst is a 3-yr-old gelded son of Nathaniel, immortalised by finishing a close-up second on debut to another notable newcomer by the name of Frankel.
Chinthurst has been tried at a mile-and-a-half but was headed late at the trip last time at Epsom, suggesting perhaps this 1m 2f could be his optimum. He’s run well here before as a 2-yr-old, and this is a left-hand, quirky venue, as is Epsom, and Bath – courses the selection has run respectably at too.
This is his third run back from a 100 days+ summer break, and he should be cherry-ripe. Everything points to a big run.
17.15 – Atty’s Edge @ 9/2
The lucky last – and an experienced 7-yr-old gelding in the care of Welsh-based handler Christopher Mason. William Cox is on top, and has ridden the horse on many previous occasions.
Atty’s Edge is in a consistent run of form right now, and contrast his last winning mark, over course-and-distance (68), to today’s figure of 55. That was 2 years ago – and if he can get anywhere near that kind of form he’s massively in this with a huge shout.
Familiarity with this unusual 5.5f trip is also a big plus – and he stays 6f well, too, so should be strong at the finish on what’s expected to be quick-ish ground. Trappy, cracking little heat but the positives are there and he’s more likely to run his race than most.
