Frank Reich confirms Bryce Young is Panthers’ starting QB

Frank Reich confirms Bryce Young is Panthers’ starting QB

As training camp is underway around the NFL, the Carolina Panthers have singled out rookie quarterback Bryce Young as the starter for the 2023 season.

“Yes, he’s QB1,” head coach Frank Reich said after the first day of training camp at Wofford College via ESPN.

After spending the early portion of the offseason competing with veteran Andy Dalton, Bryce has done enough to showcase to Reich and the Panthers that he’s ready to take on the responsibility ahead of his first campaign.

“I respect the coaches and I want to do whatever I can to play whatever role it is I’m called on to help the team,” he said. “So [being called the starter] means a lot. For me, it’s making sure I take things day by day. I want to keep improving, keep growing.”

The Alabama product is less than a week removed from signing his four-year, $37.95 million rookie deal that is fully guaranteed and includes a $24.6 million signing bonus. It also holds a fifth-year team option that could keep under contract control through 2027.

The Panthers are fully on board with Young leading the charge from the get-go. He will have every opportunity to prove he can lead Carolina to sustained success.

The franchise is hoping that his pairing with Reich will allow him to effectively lead the offense while he develops into a game-changing talent.

The Panthers’ decision to make Young the starter in July allows him to garner valuable experience in training camp and preseason before the 2023 season.
