The Ashes series between England and Australia continues to entertain. This week the series heads to Leeds for the 3rd Test. If Australia wins, they clinch the Ashes outright. Here we tell you if they are going to do it in our latest cricket betting picks.
- What; The Ashes 3rd Test match
- Who; England vs Australia (0-2)
- Where; Headingley Stadium, Leeds, West Yorkshire, England
- When; July 6th-10th, 2023
Australia won the 2nd Test at Lord’s by 43 runs, and they now lead the best-of-five series 2-0. As the current holders of the Urn, the Aussies only have to draw the series to retain the trophy.
A gutting end to another sensational Test match…

Pat Cummins and his team will want more than just to retain the Ashes. No Australian team has won the Ashes in England since 2001. And at 2-0 up, this team has a great chance to add ‘Ashes winners in England’ to their respective resumes. It’s a chance they won’t want to pass up on.
For England to win the Ashes, they have to win all three remaining Test matches. If England is to pull off the improbable, they will have to create history. No England side has ever come back from 2-0 down to win an Ashes.
It has only ever been achieved once by either side – and that was by Don Bradman’s Australia in 1936/37.
England vs Australia Ashes 3rd Test Betting
Pat Cummins’ Australia team is favored to win the 3rd Test with the best cricket betting sites.
Australia is +125 to win the 3rd Test, and the Ashes Urn. England are +165 to win and keep the series alive. The draw is +320. That’s shorter than last week at Lord’s, where the draw was +400. This is down to the weather forecast looking unpredictable over the next week.
If you’re looking to back either team, and are concerned about the weather interfering with the match, in the draw no-bet market, Australia is -138, and England is +110.

England; Architects of their own downfall
Dropped catches, missed stumpings, and reckless batting. All three contributed towards England finding themselves 2-0 down in this Ashes series.
In the 2nd Test, cool heads were needed when England was 180/1. Australia was on the back foot and had switched to short-ball tactics. But instead of playing smart cricket, England was reckless, throwing away wickets in a crazy 40-minute period that saw them slump to 222/4.
Then we had the Jonny Bairstow stumping incident on Day 5. England fans, and maybe even cricket purists, will cry that it wasn’t in the spirit of the game. But unfortunately for England and Bairstow, it was within the rules.
England was yet again naive, and yet again, Australia cashed in.
Australia; Ruthless and here to win the Urn outright
As for Australia, it seems that Pat Cummins and his team are too streetwise for England. They don’t seem to be doing anything tactically astute. They seem to be sitting in, waiting for England to implode. And the hosts keep on duly obliging.
Australia were behind for literally the whole of the 1st Test. But after a string of rash shots by England in their 2nd innings, the Aussies ended up chasing a smaller total on Day 5 than they should have done.
Then on Day 2 in the 2nd Test, Cummins employed short ball tactics after everything else he had tried failed. And as we’ve already alluded to, England was only too happy to help Australia back into the match.
But the main and biggest pointer we saw in the 2nd Test at Lord’s, was that Australia is only interested in winning. Another team may have opted to withdraw their appeal for the Bairstow stumping. But not Australia.

Alex Carey’s actions were quick thinking, and the Aussies never looked like backing down from going through with their appeal. If England hadn’t before worked out that this Aussie team means business, they sure do know it now.
Our England vs Australia 3rd Test betting pick
The Australians are now well on top. And when the Aussie cricket team is on top, they are masters of pressing home their advantage. The Aussies look for the knockout blow when they are on the front foot. As opposed to England, who when on top, seem to want to pick their opponents up off the floor, dust them down, and let them back into the contest.
England are capable of winning the 3rd Test. They have landed enough blows on Australia in this series. But the Aussies have absorbed them all and waited for England to knock themselves out.
If England can coordinate their game plan more effectively, they may be able to get back in the series. But on the evidence of what we’ve seen so far, we can only make Australia our pick to win the 3rd Test.
