After a hectic week of racing action, it’s a more sedate Sunday in store across Britain and Ireland with just four meetings taking place.
Our Sunday selections include a promising Galileo filly Divya as she bids to get champion jockey William Buick amongst the winners at Doncaster.
Selections
- Doncaster 3.15 – Divya @ 9/2
- Salisbury 4.00 – Michael’s Choice @ 4/1
- Doncaster 5.35 – Bernie The Bear @ 3/1
Tip 1
The Five-Rivers Fostering Doncaster Maiden Stakes features a field of five and the eyes are drawn to Vaguely Royal and DIVYA (9/2).
Both are progeny of Frankel and it’s John and Thady Gosden’s colt Vaguely Royal that has achieved slightly more after runner-up finishes at Newmarket and Chepstow this season. He was odds-on last time and could be short enough once more now.
The filly Divya shaped well in three appearances last season and was third in a Newmarket novice last month on her seasonal bow as she tackled this mile-and-a-half trip for the first time.
That form is decent, with the well-held fifth Sumo Sam running third since in a Goodwood Listed race behind a promising Royal Ascot-bound winner.
With her 5lb allowance, Ed Walker’s filly won’t have to improve much in the hands of champion jockey William Buick to give the market leader a major headache.
Tip 2
MICHAEL’S CHOICE (4/1) is the pick to enhance an already impressive record at Salisbury by winning the Molson Coors Handicap.
The War Command gelding boasts two wins and a third place finish in three visits to the Cathedral city course.
He only just lost out on second here in early May on his seasonal comeback and he’s forgiven having finished beaten favourite since at Lingfield as he didn’t appear to handle the course.
That was an apprentice contest and he’s got every chance of bouncing back now having eased 1lb below his previous win-mark.
Tip 3
Richard Fahey and Oisin Orr partner up in the concluding Harrison College Handicap at Doncaster and BERNIE THE BEAR (3/1) is taken to justify inclusion on the Most Napped table via the Betfred Betfinder for them.
The 3YO gelding showed flashes of promise in six outings last year as a juvenile without getting a win on the board, but he put forward an improved showing on his seasonal bow at Carlisle (7f, good) this month, finishing second behind B Associates from the Jim Goldie team.
That winner scored again since at the same venue – completing a hat-trick in the process – and bids for the four-timer in the preceding race on this Doncaster card.
Bernie The Bear was more than five lengths clear of the third last time, and with the chance of improvement now on this season outing of the term, can go one spot better.
