Worcester Tips: Red letter day for Nicholls’ charge

Worcester Tips: Red letter day for Nicholls’ charge

Worcester is set to host an eight-race evening card on Thursday night and, with some interesting runners set to line up, it should be an exciting evening.

The competitive novices’ handicap chase at 18:50 is the highlight of the card and the meeting gets under way with a ten-runner handicap chase over 2m4f for novices at 17:15 and concludes at 21:00 with a handicap hurdle over 2m.

Brighton Betting Tips:

  • 18:50 – Martello Sky @ (SP)
  • 19:20 – Hell Red @ (SP)
  • 20:25 – Kenzai Warrior @ (SP)

Date: Thursday 15th June
Time: First race at 17:15
Location: Worcester, Worcestershire

18:50 – Martello Sky

The 18:50 from Worcester is an ultra-competitive five-runner novice handicap chase and it would be foolish to discount any of the runners, with plenty offering at least some evidence to make a case for them.

Nevertheless the eye is drawn to MARTELLO SKY (SP) who is making just her second start over fences and for Dr Richard Newland.

The seven-year-old has some real classy hurdles form, including winning a listed race at Cheltenham in 2021 and a second behind Love Envoi in January.

She followed that up with a third-placed finish behind Epatante at Doncaster in the Grade 2 Yorkshire Rose Mares’ Hurdle.

While this is a strong field, she is the class act and had excuses on her chase debut as she lost a shoe. Her new trainer could have a win with her on second start here.

19:20 – Hell Red

Anytime Paul Nicholls sends a horse to Worcester it must be appreciated and he saddles HELL RED (SP) in this handicap hurdle.

Nicholls has a 29 per cent strike rate at the Midlands track, with a +71.03 profit to level stakes in the last five seasons.

The selection is also a perpetual winner, with seven victories from 18 starts under rules. Good ground seems key to the success of this six-year-old, with seven wins and two seconds on good ground and he will encounter that going again here at Worcester.

The brother of Hell Boy also gets on well with Harry Cobden, with five wins and two seconds from ten outings under Nicholls’ stable jockey. Cobden takes over from apprentice Freddie Gingell here and that could be key.

Horse Racing Odds

20:25 – Kenzai Warrior

KENZAI WARRIOR (SP) was a classy performer on the flat, winning the Horris Hill as a juvenile and running in the 2,000 Guineas.

Roger Teal’s gelding lost his way somewhat after that and was switched to hurdling last year, with a promising second at Taunton on his second start in December.

Kept sharp with a few outings on the flat in April, the 6-year-old returns to hurdling and has been found a soft race to get off the mark in.

His likely rival at the front of the market, Evenwood Sonofagun, is a 16-race maiden and there is not much other threat in the field, meaning Kenzai Warrior is fancied to get his first hurdling win.
