The Reigning Champ

Seems like just another day at the office for Swiatek, as she secured another straight set win, that earned herself a spot in the final of Roland Garros. The World No. 1 defeated 14th seed Beatriz Haddad Maia 6-2, 7(9)-6(7).

Swiatek was challenged at times in this match. Despite the strong win in the first set, she actually started a bit rough, but as we can see with the score, she managed to turn that around quickly.

In the second set, there was more of an even play, as both players managed to throw the other off at times. It was 6-5, when Haddad Maia had the opportunity to win the set, but she was unable to finish it. This eventually led to Swiatek securing the win.

The Pole has now extended her Grand Slam record to 60-13.

Muchova Shocks Aryna Sabalenka

Yes, Swiatek is looking for her third career French Open title at 22-year old, but the story heading into this match might be Muchova upsetting Sabalenka in the semis.

Unseeded Muchova, saved a match point and won the final five games to book her spot in the finals, defeated Sabalenka 7(6)-6(5), 6(5)-7(7), 7-5. She saved the match point when she was down 5-2 in the third set. The rest is history.

In a match with a ton of back-and-forth, it was Muchova who came out swinging in the first set going up 2-0. As expected, Sabalenka came back, and pushed the set to a tiebreak. Sabalenka then managed to keep that momentum into the second set, winning that, and forcing a tiebreak.

In a match that lasted over three hours, Muchova played some of her best tennis. With the win, she has now extended her record to 5-0 against players in the Top 3 rankings.

The 26-year old, who is currently sitting at World No. 43, is sure to see a bump in her standings, as she’s expected to return to the Top 20.

Second Career Meeting

Swiatek and Muchova have only played each other one time, dating back to 2019. Muchova won that match in three sets.

It’s worth mentioning that this match came about a year and a half before Swiatek really made a name for herself in the tennis world.

Swiatek vs Muchova Pick

It seems like the French Open final is a comfortable setting for Swiatek, as this will be the first time the young star has experienced this stage. As mentioned above, she is the favorite heading into this match, and it’s not close. But Muchova is coming off one of her strongest wins of her career, and her confidence should be through the roof.

But clay is Swiatek’s surface, and she has proven that time and time again, and this seems like it will be her match to lose. Muchova is sure to give her a run, and challenge her at times, but unless she plays the best match she’s ever played, with little to no unforced errors, it doesn’t seem like she’ll take this one from Swiatek.

Best Bet: Iga Swiatek 2-0 (-265)
