All of these parks with water play are free to visit except for the ones located in the zoos. I’ve still included them because as a Zoos Victoria member you get unlimited entry for 12 months.

Also note that water jets are not always turned on so it’s worth calling ahead (if possible) to check.

Water Play Melbourne – CBD / DOCKLANDS

1. Harmony Garden, Docklands

Harmony Garden is part of the Yarra’s Edge residential development. It offers a water pump pouring onto a winding creek bed and excellent views of the Yarra River.

There is also more traditional play equipment, nature play and excellent grassy slopes for rolling down.

2. Ron Barassi Snr Park, Docklands

This Docklands playground offers multiple water pumps and a water channel surrounded with bluestone pavers.  There is a huge sandpit with sand play scoops which go hand in hand with water play.

This playground also offers a climbing tower with two long slides, tyre swing and is in proximity to other Dockland attractions.

3. Coles Fountain, Parliament Gardens Reserve

Cool off by strolling through the refreshing cascades of water at Coles Fountain, nestled in Parliament Gardens Reserve, where stainless steel meets bluestone paving.

4. Library at the Dock, Docklands

This is a relatively small water play area adjacent to a fort-like play space, but it definitely warrants a visit as an add-on to spending some time at the well equipped and well designed Library at the Dock.

Water Play Parks Melbourne – NORTH

5. Bundoora Park Play Space, Bundoora

Part of a fully fenced and accessible play space, this water play area offers a hand pump and jets on a sand table.

It was turned off during our visit, so I suggest enquiring prior to your visit to avoid disappointment.

 6. Livvi’s Place, Cragieburn ANZAC Park, Craigieburn

Part of an accessible play space with nature play elements and play equipment, this park offers a turning tap leading to a stream.  When we visited a cascading water table was being installed.

 7. Melbourne Zoo Water Play, Parkville

Lion Gorge at Melbourne Zoo is designed around the concept of a waterhole and houses lions, African wild dogs and a Phillipines Crocodile.  It extends into the Carnivores trail.

The water hole in the design incorporates a realistic crocodile sculpture and spurting fountains that land in a shallow creek bed, perfect for cooling down in warmer months.

8. Royal Park Nature Play, Parkville

Adjacent to the Royal Children’s Hospital, this is an expansive playground with swings, two substantial wooden climbing structures, slides, a big hill nearby to roll down and water play.

The water play has two areas; a flat section with water jets and a stream shaped structure surrounded by jets with water pumps / fountains leading into a sandpit at the bottom.   Lady AB and Baby 2.0 gravitate to the water play area, so a change of clothes or swimwear are needed.

9. Bryant Family Reserve, Oak Park

Bryant Family Reserve is a playground in Oak Park that was upgraded in 2018 to include a nature play space with a water pump that fills a channel that winds down a gradual decline.

There is also traditional play equipment, a drink tap and a picnic table.

10. Eltham Lower Park Playspace, Eltham

A fully fenced accessible play space themed around the Eltham Copper Butterfly (an endangered species indigenous to the area) with a small water play area and accessible sandpit.

 11. Community Bank Adventure Playground Hadfield Park, Wallan

This is an all abilities playground with a multi-storey climbing fort, swings, flying foxes, a sandpit and water play.

The splash park was under maintenance when we visited, so we recommend checking it will be turned on when you plan to visit.

Clydevale Park is part of the Clydevale precinct, and has a small sandpit with a water pump that trickles over stones and into the sand.

Cloverton Estate offers an all-abilities playground with a variety of interesting equipment.  This includes a water fountain, perfect for play in the warmer months.

14. Mill Park All Abilities Play Space, Mill Park

Splash into fun at Mill Park All Abilities Play Space, where the fenced water play area features accessible tables, shooting jets, misting rings, and manual pumps. Open from 8 am to 8 pm in summer, with the tables available year-round.

15. Anthony Beale Reserve Play Space, Greensborough

At Anthony Beale Reserve Play Space in scenic St. Helena, kids can engage with nature at the sandpit creek water feature, complete with hand pump and sluice gates.

It’s a beautiful park, with views from the elevated 10.12-hectare reserve, sports ovals, a playground, and diverse bushland.

16. Aston Fields Playground, Craigieburn

A big playground as part of the Peet Aston development in Craigieburn.  Includes play equipment, a scooter ramp, half basketball court and water play.

The water play includes a pump, multi tiered channel leading into a stream on the ground with a sluice.

17. North Road Foreshore Playground, Brighton

Head to North Road Foreshore Playground for water play under the see-saw activated sprinklers, then play on the swings, climbing structures and mini trampolines all with fantastic views of Port Phillip Bay.

 18. Booran Reserve, Glen Huntly

Booran Reserve is an award winning playground with swings, flying foxes, a large climbing structure, a multi-level sand pit with water play and a dedicated water play space with water jets and stepping stones.  I definitely recommend towels and bathers at Booran Reserve!

 19. Children’s Garden at Royal Botanic Gardens, South Yarra

The Ian Potter Foundation Childrens Garden is a beautiful play space that inspires imaginative play.  It has a sandpit, stream, pond and water jets that are turned on when the temperature is over 25 degrees.

There are lots of shaded areas, and the garden is fully fenced, but some of the water features are quite deep requiring supervision.

20. Encore Boulevard Reserve Playground, Cranbourne South

In addition to the standout feature of the ‘bumpy slide,’ the Encore Boulevard Reserve Playground boasts a water pump situated atop a slope, along with a network of channels and sluice gates that guide the water flow into the sandpit below.

21. Maritime Cove, Port Melbourne

Maritime cove offers climbing equipment, a long slide, sand play and two separate water play areas.  The first is a smaller area with a water pump and channel and there is a separate area with several sprinklers spraying water overhead.

22. Smith Lane Adventure Park, Clyde North

Smith Lane Adventure Park boasts an exciting water play area, perfect for the little kids. 

Starting at a soft mound, a flowing stream runs through the playground, cascading down a rocky channel and featuring balance beams. The stream expands into a shaded zone with sluice gates, hand pumps, and water sprays. Additionally, the park offers picnic facilities and toilets.

23. Plum Garland Playground, Albert Park

Plum Garland is a delightful fully fenced playground with swings, a climbing fort, a flat spinning disc and plenty of sand to play with.  There is a water pump with channel and a small area with water jets.  You also get a great view of ships in Port Phillip Bay.

24. Livvi’s Place Edgebrook Playground, Clyde

Nestled in Clyde’s serene landscape, Livvi’s Place Edgebrook Playground offers an inclusive haven for families, with water sensory zones, tranquil spaces, and a flight deck awaiting exploration. 

Designed with careful consideration for children and families living with autism, this playground, situated in Stockland’s Edgebrook estate, provides a welcoming environment for all. 

Children can delight in the interactive water pump, cascading water onto rocks, flowing through sluice gates, and past a whimsical giant frog, adding an extra touch of wonder to their playtime adventures.

25. Australian Garden, Cranbourne

The Australian Garden at the Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne, has a rockpool water way with water up to about ankle depth.

I suggest that smaller children will need an adults help as the ground is uneven. The gardens also have a playground and other areas designed for children.

 26. Dandenong Park, Dandenong

Dandenong park offers a playground with equipment to play on., swings and a large sandpit.  A tap (complete with automatic stopper) runs over the sandpit for water play, and there is also a digger and stepping stones.

This beautiful playground includes traditional play equipment and water play in the stream. There is plenty of natural shade and toilets as well as space to set up a picnic.

28. Ballam Park Reserve East Playground, Frankston

Ballam Park offers expansive open spaces teeming with recreational amenities, including two playgrounds, a basketball half-court, tennis wall, walking trails, ovals, and an athletics track. 

Among its attractions upgraded in 2022, is a dynamic water play park, featuring numerous fountains of varying heights and strengths and a large splash pad. Another two designated areas offer gentler water play, ideal for younger children, where pump taps gently trickle into a sandpit.

The front of Bunjil Place forms an outdoor community plaza.  There is a small playground and a splash pad surrounded by bean bags.

At Harleston Park Playground, families can enjoy the excitement of the ‘longest slide in Glen Eira’ alongside a charming water play area. Water squirts out from a rock and flows down a long creek bed, adding to the park’s allure amidst historic trees and picnic facilities.

31. Kingston Heath Reserve and Botanic Gardens, Cheltenham

As well as sports fields and play equipment, Kingston Heath Reserve has sand play, a rocky stream and water spray arches.  There are shelters and natural shade.

A unique all abilities playground centred by a huge dragon fly sculpture. The water play is under shelter and features different sprinklers and channels.

33. North Road Foreshore Playground, Brighton

At North Road Reserve Playground in Brighton, little adventurers can set sail on the Rotary Endeavour II before enjoying the sandpit shaded by sails. 

With a whimsical water pump and sprinklers mounted on poles, (that are activated by the playful seesaw!), kids can embark on aquatic escapades, adding an extra splash of fun to their seaside adventure.

A fully fenced playground with shaded areas to set up, Wombat Bend offers equipment including flying foxes, a bat winged spinning wheel and a sandpit with water play. I suggest you BYO bucket and spade like many children we saw there.

38. Emerald Lake Park Wading Pool, Emerald

During summer, visitors can enjoy the free wading pool adjacent to the stunning Emerald Lake Park, with water depths ranging from 50 to 90cm. Great for preschool kids, this shallow pool is a delightful addition to the park’s attractions, open from November to March between 12:00 pm and 6:30 pm.

The all-access play space in Footscray Park is mostly fenced, has play equipment, swings, flying foxes, musical instruments, a sand pit with a rock bridge structure to climb over and water play.

48. Crocodile Park, Point Cook

Part of the Saltwater Coast residential development, Crocodile Park sits amongst wetlands. There is a climbing fort, slides, see saw and smaller pieces of play equipment.

A crocodile sculpture spurts water into a small wading pool that flows through stepping stones and ends in a circular feature with water jets.

49. Hippo Beach and Village Kids at Werribee Open Range Zoo

Adjacent to the live hippos, Hippo Beach at Werribee Open Range Zoo has sand and water play.  There is a water pump with adjustable channels and multiple water jets surrounding large hippo sculptures.

50. Carinya Village Park Playground, Werribee

Whilst the playground is more suited to older kids, the small water play area can be a lot of fun for little ones. With a pump leading water through channels, kids can explore have a good play. There’s a grassy area with picnic tables and BBQs, however no toilet feacilities.

51. Riverwalk Village Park, Werribee

As well as play equipment, Riverwalk Village Park has a large water play park.

Between October and March the water park is open from 9am to 8am, and between April and September it’s open from 10am to 5pm.  The water jets are active when the temperature reaches over 25 degrees.  When the temperature is lower the other water features are still in action.

Part of the Woodlea housing estate in Rockbank, Frontier Park has play equipment (including three treehouse structures), swings, a rope obstacle course and a sandpit surrounded by a water play area.

Wyndham Park Werribee, located on the banks of the Werribee River, has been newly upgraded. The park includes new playgrounds, exercise equipment and recreational areas.

Included in the new space is a nature play area with water play included, with the opportunity to make dams and streams, and a sand pit and digger to add to the fun.

Built in the former Seville Memorial Swimming Pool, the Seville splash park has water jets and non-slip rubber surfaces in the old pool area and boulders and stormwater drains to clamber over at the other end. 

At this water playground, the seating areas aren’t shaded, but there are shaded grass areas.

Healesville Sanctuary has multiple kids’ play areas, including Future Vets inside the Australian Wildlife Health Centre. Adjacent to the Pavilion Cafe and Reptile House is a nature play space with a fun water play area.

Using the space where there was previously a swimming pool, Warburton Water World is a brand new water play park that includes a drenching bucket.

Olinda Playspace is a stunning nature-based playground in the Dandenong Ranges.

The Creswick Splash Park offers a diverse range of activities including BMX biking, scootering, skateboarding, and a water play area for summer fun. Additionally, visitors can utilise the outdoor fitness area, though parking is limited, and the park is within walking distance from the town centre.

69. Kyneton Community Park

Refurbished tractors and other agriculturally inspired elements of the Kyneton Community Park are a nod to the area’s history.

There is a ropes course, a basket swing and a sand pit with rocks and native grasses. The water play area includes a splash pad with smaller bubblers and larger jets, and runs from early December to late March.
