Ever since the San Francisco 49ers lost to Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl in February, the team has circled the rematch on their calendars, with Week 7 in the crosshairs in hopes of getting some revenge against Andy Reid’s squad, who fell short against in the big game in overtime.
Fortunately for San Francisco, the team will get some help on the offensive side of the football this weekend when taking on the defending Super Bowl champions in this highly anticipated rematch, with rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall set to make his NFL debut, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan via Nick Wagoner of ESPN.
The Niners plan to activate Pearsall from the non-football injury list to the active 53-man roster, Shanahan announced Friday. That means that just 50 days after he was shot in the right side of his chest, Pearsall is in line to play his first regular-season snaps against the Chiefs.
Before the 2024 NFL regular season got underway, Pearsall was shot in San Francisco during a robbery attempt, which was obviously a scary situation. Fortunately for the rookie wideout, the bullet went straight through his body, missing any vital organs, resulting in him being able to resume his NFL career when healthy.

49ers star quarterback Brock Purdy talked about what he’s seen from Pearsall and being excited about what the rookie can accomplish on the football field this year via ESPN.
“He’s doing a really good job, obviously being back and just bringing the juice, going really fast in and out of his cuts and creating some really good separation,” quarterback Brock Purdy said. “When you’ve got a guy like Ricky that can win man-to-man matchups and then also open up some other guys too, that’s always a good thing. So I’m excited to see what he does.”
It remains to be seen how much Shanahan will put Pearsall to use against the Chiefs, but the fact he’s cleared, looked good in practice, and is ready to go is a huge step in the right direction.
