Mountain West Football Conference Preview
Going into this season, there are four teams inside of +1000 odds to win the Mountain West championship. Those teams are Boise State, Fresno State, Air Force, and San Diego State. The two favorites to win this conference title are Boise and Fresno State, who faced off in last year’s Mountain West championship game. But Air Force and San Diego State could certainly leapfrog the two favorites to get themselves a conference title game berth.
Last season, Fresno State started their season with a 1-4 record, before ripping off nine straight wins to win the Mountain West and win their bowl game over Washington State. But the Bulldogs lost the quarterback responsible for much of that run, as Jake Haener is now chasing the dream in the NFL. That could open the door for one of the other contenders in this league to take over as the top team in the Mountain West.
Mountain West Football Betting & Handicapping
Until proven otherwise, Boise State is the class of this conference. The Broncos have fallen short a few years in a row now, but they are always among the contenders to win this league, and they are deserved favorites to get back to the top of the mountain once again.
Fresno State has been in the MWC Title Game five times since it began in 2013. No other team has more appearances, but eight of the 12 teams in the conference have made at least one appearance. That means that you could find a long shot with some value.
This is not a neutral-site conference championship game. The team with the better record or the tiebreakers will host the game. That could change with Allegiant Stadium now in the mix in Las Vegas, but for now, the team with the better record still has a noteworthy advantage in the game. If you’re looking for a team to bet, consider the regular season schedules and see where their toughest games are so that you can see which team has the highest likelihood of the best record and a chance at home-field advantage.
