2022 Haut Medoc, Listrac, Moulis, Medoc Guide to all Top Wines

2022 Bordeaux is a clear candidate for future legendary status. There are numerous characteristic that go into calling a vintage great. One of key components is when there are really fine wines from every appellation and more importantly, at all price ranges. While 2022 Haut Medoc can never be homogenous, because the appellation is so big, with a diverse array of terroirs, there are several outstanding Cabernet Sauvignon based wines that deserve the effort to taste.

Savvy wine buyers and bargain hunters should take a serious look at a lot of the 2022 wine tasting notes below. You will discover a nice array of Left Bank wine values not only in Haut Medoc, but with 2022 Listrac and 2022 Moulis. Plus, 2022 Medoc wines, those from the cooler terroirs in the far north of Bordeaux produced a lot of superb, character-filled wine values. Due to the heat and drought, several estates were able to produce the best wines they have ever made, and they all sell for a song!

All of the following 2022 Bordeaux wines were tasted in Bordeaux in April. Most of the wines were tasted at the property, Negociants, Consultants or with trade groups. Whenever possible the wines were tasted more than once.

2022 Agassac – Haut-Médoc – Fruity, round, soft, sweet, lively and plummy, with a touch of salt at the end of the finish. The medium-bodied, well-priced wine is going to be simply delicious on release. Drink from 2025-2032. 89-91 Pts

2022 Beaumont – Haut-Médoc – Licorice, black fruits and a touch of espresso on the nose lead the way to the medium-bodied, round, polished, soft, fruit-filled, blackberry finish. The wine blends 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. For about $20, this is a steal! Drink from 2025-2031. 89-91 Pts

2022 Belgrave – Haut-Médoc – Black currants, chocolate, licorice and espresso fill the perfume. On the palate, the wine is fresh, sweet, creamy and polished. The tannins are soft, the fruit is sweet, and pure, with ample lift in the finish. This is the best vintage of Belgrave I have ever tasted! Drink from 2026-2042. 92-94 Pts

2022 Bernadotte – Haut-Médoc – Medium-bodied with ample ripe, dark red fruits, soft tannins and floral accents, but with a bit too much wood in the finish. If the oak becomes better integrated, this could be quite tasty. Drink from 2025-2037. 88-90 Pts

2022 Beychvelle Les Brulieres de Beychevelle – Haut-Médoc – Forward, soft, plummy, round, and fruity, this is easy to like, and even easier to drink charmer will be ready to go on release. Drink from 2024-2028. 87-89 Pts

2022 Branas-Grand-Poujeaux – Moulis en Médoc – Supple, creamy-textured wine with a core of espresso, dark berry and cocoa nuances, the wine is medium-bodied, round in texture, with a cocoa and espresso edge to the fruits, finishing with refreshing herbs on the backend. Drink from 2025-2037. 90-92 Pts

2022 Cambon La Pelouse – Haut-Médoc – Fresh, round, fruity, and ripe, with blackberries, plums and currants, supple textures and good energy in the finish is what you will find here. Drink from 2025-2035. 90-92 Pts

2022 Camensac – Haut-Médoc – Currants, blackberries, cedar and tobacco leaf work perfectly here. The wine has ample fruit and freshness with a savory edge to the currant and cranberry finish. A year or two in the cellar will add even more to the wine. Drink from 2026-2038. 90-92 Pts

2022 Cantemerle – Haut-Médoc – Currants, black cherries, flowers, mocha, and spearmint aromas open the wine. On the palate, the wine is supple, refined, elegant and creamy,. The fruits are soft, sweet, and fresh, leaving you with supple-textured, sweet cherries and spicy freshness in the finish. Drink from 2026-2045. 92-94 Pts

2022 Charmail – Haut-Médoc – Supple, creamy, dark currants, spice, tobacco leaf, and cedar are all over the place in the nose and on the palate. The finish is fresh and fruity. This is one of those super value wines from the Haut Medoc that savvy wine buyers should be all over. Drink from 2025-2036. 90-92 Pts

2022 Chasse Spleen – Moulis en Médoc – Tobacco leaf, underbrush, cedar, and currants form the core of the wine. On the medium-bodied palate, the wine is crunchy, crisp, and classic with a savory edge to firm finish. Drink from 2025-2040. 89-91 Pts

2022 Cissac – Haut-Médoc – Soft, fresh, and polished, here you find layers of ripe, black cherries, and spice that already show well in this earthy, medium-bodied, vibrant, chewy wine. This is a nice step-up for the wine produced here. Drink from 2025-2040. 89-91 Pts

2022 Clarke – Listrac-Médoc – Floral, fruity, and fresh, with blackberries, and chocolate-accented black currants and cherries, the wine is medium-bodied, creamy, and fruity from start to finish. 2022 Clavis Orea Medoc – Médoc – Blackberries, tobacco, flowers and currants form the core of this wine. The wine is fresh, fruity, bright and chewy, with a red currant, and herb oriented, chalky finish. Drink from 2026-2038. 89-91 Pts

2022 Clement Pichon – Haut-Médoc – Tobacco, mint, currants, smoke, and licorice open the nose. On the palate, the wine is fresh, sweet, bright, and crisp, with lift and fresh flavors in the finish. The wine blends 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Cabernet Franc. Drink from 2025-2038. 90-92 Pts

2022 Clos Manou – Médoc – Blackberries, licorice, espresso, vanilla, currants and cedar work together to form the perfume. Complete from start to finish, the fresh, soft, firm, medium-bodied finish is packed with more of those, sweet, dark, fresh fruits. 2022 Clos Manou 1850 – Médoc – Black, dark red and blue fruits show in the nose. On the palate, the wine is lush, concentrated, sweet, vibrant, round, and fresh. There is a patina of softness to the fruits in the mid-palate and in the endnote. The wine is produced from a small parcel of Merlot vines planted in 1850! Drink from 2025-2037. 92-94 Pts

2022 Coufran – Haut-Médoc – With loads of sweet, ripe, creamy plums, cocoa, chocolate and espresso on the nose and palate, the creamy-textured palate, with its layers of sweet, ripe, fruits seals the deal. Drink from 2025-2040. 89-91 Pts

2022 D’Arcins – Haut-Médoc – Floral, and fruity, the wine is forward, soft, round, medium-bodied, polished and fresh, with a core of sweet, dark cherries and plums. This will be easy-to-taste on release with pleasure. Drink from 2025-2036. 89-91 Pts

2022 Dutruch Grand Poujeaux – Moulis en Médoc – Blackberries, currants, spice, and espresso form the core of this medium-bodied, round, creamy-textured wine. You can enjoy this on the young side. Drink from 2025-2038. 89-91 Pts

2022 GdEstournel – Médoc – Dark currants, blackberries, chocolate and flowers show easily in the nose. On the palate, the wine is supple, creamy and round with a finish loaded with chocolate covered black plums. You can enjoy this on release. 2022 Giscours Haut-Medoc – Haut-Médoc – Fruit and flowers are all over the place here. Round, fruity, fresh and tasty, this is going to be easy to enjoy on release for all of its up-front dark red fruits. The wine blends 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc. 2022 Greysac – Médoc – The best Greysac ever made is forward, fresh, and already drinkable in its soft, round, fruity, easy-drinking currant-filled manner. Drink from 2025-2032. 89-91 Pts

2022 Haut Condissas – Médoc – Lush, round, polished, creamy, ripe. forward, and fruity, this is going to offer pleasure early, due to its wealth of ripe, sweet, polished, blackberries, plums, cocoa, and espresso beans. Drink from 2025-2037. 89-90 Pts

2022 Haut-Madrac – Haut-Médoc – Black fruits, espresso, herbs and smoke show in the nose, and on the round, forward, dark-red berry filled wine. This is good-to-go on release wine, offering plenty of sweet, ripe fruits on the mid-palate and hints of licorice and cocoa in the finish. Drink from 2025-2030. 89-91 Pts

2022 La Branne – Médoc – Soft, fresh, medium-bodied, forward, and chewy, there is a strong, herbal edge to the red fruits in the chalky finish. Drink from 2025-2030. 87-89 Pts

2022 La Lagune – Haut-Médoc – Flowers, spices, white and black cherries, espresso, and tobacco crowd into the nose. On the palate, the wine is elegant, silky, and fresh, with sweetness, and lift on the palate. 2022 La Tour Carnet – Haut-Médoc – Blackberries, black cherries, flowers, tobacco leaf, cedar, and espresso nuances form the core of this wine. 2022 Lamothe Bergeron – Haut-Médoc – Currants, spice, licorice, tobacco, cherries, and cedar show nicely in the perfume. Medium-bodied, soft, fresh, vibrant, creamy, and fresh, the sweet fruits linger on the palate with freshness, and a touch of spice in the finish. Drink from 2025-2034. 91-92 Pts

2022 Lanessan – Haut-Médoc – Blackberries, currants, tobacco leaf, underbrush, and fennel on the nose let you know the wine is going to be good. 2022 Les Grands Chenes – Médoc – Black and red fruits with nuances of tobacco leaf, and espresso beans open the wine. 2022 Les Hauts de Lynch-Moussas – Haut-Médoc – Forward, early drinking, easy-to-like charmer with a cocoa and currant character that is best for early drinking. 2022 Lestage-Darquier Grand Poujeaux – Moulis en Médoc – Round, lush, polished, and packed with layers of dark, red currants. The wine is fresh, and fruity, with nice length and character. Drink from 2026-2038. 90-92 Pts

2022 Poitevin – Médoc – From vines planted in a cool terroir placed at the north of the appellation, the wine offers, licorice, tobacco and blackberries as its character. 2022 Potensac – Médoc – Tobacco leaf, cedar, peppery herbs, and black fruits show on the nose, and on the palate. There is volume, intensity, concentration, tannic structure, and a regal bearing for the wine on the palate. By miles, this is the most complete vintage for Potensac I have ever tasted. The wine was produced from blending 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36.5% Merlot, 19.5% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot.14.52% ABV. Drink from 2026-2045. 92-94 Pts

2022 Poujeaux – Moulis en Médoc – Licorice, flowers, tobacco leaf, cedar and blackberries, and spearmint form the nose. The medium-bodied palate is loaded with currants, blackberries, wet earth, and savory herbs, with a hint of olives on the fresh, chewy backend. The wine blends 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot, 14% ABV, 3.85 pH. Drink from 2025-2042. 91-93 Pts

2022 Rollan de By – Médoc – Supple, round, creamy, forward, and filled with sweet black cherries, black currants and espresso, with some licorice that comes in on the back end of the finish. Drink from 2025-2035. 89-91 Pts

2022 Saransot-Dupre – Listrac-Médoc – Flowers, cherries, currants, and leafy tobacco form the nose. On the palate, the wine has a nice lush, ripe, sweet, fruit character, with a long, dark, black currant finish, with good freshness too. The wine features a unique blend of 68% Merlot, 17% Petit Verdot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc and 1% Carmenere. Drink from 2024-2038. 91-93 Pts

2022 Senejac – Haut-Médoc – With notes of flowers, blackberries, black currants, and black raspberries on the nose, you get a concentrated, round, dark-fruited, rich wine with more of those sweet, juicy black fruits in the finish along with a hint of chocolate and spicy espresso that comes in at the end of the finish. The wine blends 47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Franc and 6% Petit Verdot. 13.5% ABV. Drink from 2025-2035. 91-93 Pts

2022 Sociando Mallet – Haut-Médoc – Blackberries, black currants, flowers, cedar, mint, and tobacco fill the nose. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, concentrated, deep, and packed with layers of chalky, ripe, red fruits, spice, herb and cigar wrappers. This is among the best vintages of Sociando Mallet I have ever tasted. Drink from 2027-2050. 93-95 Pts

2022 Villa Carmin – Médoc – Round and fleshy with black, red and blue fruits, the wine is ripe, round-textured, and loaded with sweet, juicy, dark red fruits and spice on the nose, and on the palate, and finish. Drink from 2025-2035. 89-91 Pts

2022 Villegeorge – Haut-Médoc – Dark currants, black cherries and chocolate with creamy textures and loads of fruit in the finish make this an already easy wine to like that will be simply delicious to enjoy on release. Drink from 2025-2037. 89-91 Pts
