It’s beginning to look a lot like . . . time to enjoy your favorite seasonal coffee creamers! Have you spotted any at your grocery store? I spotted Nestle Coffee-mate Peppermint Mocha at Walmart and bought the ingredients to make my Peppermint Coffee Split recipe. I using this recipe as a reason to connect with my husband over a game of cribbage. We love to play games, but sometimes we forget to take a break when our schedules get busy. But it’s so important because we usually laugh and we have some great conversations over a game and coffee.

The ingredients for Peppermint Coffee Split are simple, and you probably have most of them already. I prefer to use instant coffee in frozen drinks because it’s faster than brewing coffee, you don’t have to wait for the coffee to cool off, and you don’t have to worry about watering down your recipe. I recommend using frozen bananas to help your drink be frostier. You can adjust the “frostiness” of your drink by adding more ice cream or adding ice to the blender. Here’s the recipe for you to enjoy at your house!
- 2 Tablespoons Nestle Coffee-mate Peppermint Mocha
- 4 scoops vanilla ice cream
- 2 cups milk
- 2 frozen bananas
- 2 Tablespoons instant coffee
- whipped cream
- candy canes (to crush and to use as stir sticks)
- chocolate syrup
- strawberry preserves
- cherries (optional)
- Add milk, Coffee-mate Peppermint Mocha, vanilla ice cream, bananas, and instant coffee to blender
- Blend well, add more ice cream or ice cubes for a thicker drink
- Drizzle chocolate syrup and strawberry preserves on the inside edges of 2 glasses
- Pour from blender into 2 glasses (do not stir)
- Top with whipped cream and crushed candy canes
- Add a candy cane stir stick and red straw before serving immediately

Before we were married, my husband and I used to play cribbage when we would go on dates. One of our favorite date nights was to go to a coffeehouse in Denver called Paris on the Platte. It’s still there (although it has changed a lot) and my memories of going there include many rounds of cribbage or cards late into the night and amazing frozen coffee drinks to fuel those late nights. I wanted to replicate our college “date nights” by creating a banana-split version of a frozen coffee drink. My husband was impressed and it was a great opportunity to connect on our “date” without leaving the comfort of our dining room.
